BerkshireNow: John Clarke

On view August 2 through October 27, 2019

Artist’s Reception: Friday, August 2, 5 to 8 pm
Free and open to the community as part of First Fridays Artswalk.

Local artist John Clarke’s drawings and mixed media works are a graceful dance, with each stroke of the pencil or pastel, and each movement of the camera in sync with the moment’s music. BerkshireNow: John Clarke features three separate and unique series of work by the artist: colorful drawings created exclusively to the song Für Alina by Arvo Pärt, beautiful and mysterious mixed media landscapes, and long-exposure photographs that blur the line between photo and pastel.

Often described as a Renaissance man, Clark studied chemistry, math, archaeology, and art history at Bates College before earning a degree in classical music composition. Clarke’s work has been shown at the Katonah Museum of Art, Berkshire Museum, Geoff Young Gallery, the Joyce Goldstein Gallery, the Isha Nelson Gallery, Deb Koffman’s Little Gallery, and Sohn Fine Art, where he is currently represented. His mixed-media work titled Trees by the Pond was named Runner Up in Berkshire Museum’s juried exhibition, Art of the Hills, in 2018.
