Dr. Randy Weston

Master musician Dr. Randy Weston will perform a concert inspired by the “mysticism of sound and music,” presented by the Abode of the Message and the National Economic Foundation for Educational Reconstruction. Weston, who has musical roots in the Berkshires, will offer an evening of music inspired by the mystical voice of Sufi teacher Hazrat Inayat Khan, father of Abode founder Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan.

The evening begins with a dialogue between Weston and Pir Zia Inayat-Khan, moderated by Fatima Hafiz-Muid, PhD. Pir Zia, the son of Abode founder Pir Vilayat and grandson of Hazrat Inayat Khan, will join the conversation via teleconference. Between the dialogue and concert, Rev. Ivy Hylton of Serenity Healing Arts will offer a sound healing session.

The concert is part of a larger retreat titled “Healing Ourselves and Healing Our Communities: Harmonizing in Retreat” held at the Abode from September 22-24, 2017. The coordinators believe “music speaks what words may not and music becomes a mystical language of healing” and thus the concert engages music, mysticism, and healing.

The Abode of the Message, an Eco-Sufi Village in New Lebanon, New York, was founded in 1975 by universalist Sufi teacher Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan as an experiment in living the teachings and practices of his father, Hazrat Inayat Khan, the first Sufi teacher in the West. Set on 350 acres of the historic Mount Lebanon Shaker Village, the Abode offers sanctuary for Sufis and seekers and as an Eco-Sufi Village is spiritual in nature, universal in message, and elemental in practice. For further information on this weekend retreat, or general information about the Abode and its programs, please contact Ibrahím Pedriñán, Abode Director of Programs, at 518.794.8090 x125 or programs@theabode.org.
