Create Your Own Label!

As part of its redesign, Berkshire Museum wants to provide community voices in its galleries. We encourage people from all walks of life and all ages to take part to present a variety of perspectives. If you are interested in contributing, please forward a sample label text for one of the four objects on this page.

Please limit the text to 100 words and include your name, age, and occupation (or personal description); email your submission to info@berkshiremuseum.org no later than July 1. If your label is selected, we will ask you to choose an object that interests you from a prepared list of works and write a description of the object from your unique perspective. Your label will be on display when the museum reopens following our renovation.

I love this sculpture because the hilt of the sword missing makes me wonder about what it could have looked like when they first made it. Did it have gems or jewels in the hilt? I also love the intricate detail of the mosaic floor she is standing on; it reminds me of palace floors but also walking on rock sand beaches. Her expression is one of someone I wouldn’t want to mess with and seeing it made out of stone is really impressive. The fine details of the sculpture and her monumental size are always so cool to see.
