Ode To Joy

How does a man who is paralyzed by happiness, quite literally, find love? Thanks to cataplexy, a rare condition that causes loss of muscle control when overcome by strong emotions of joy, Charlie (Martin Freeman) must learn to carefully edit out the delight-triggering people, places, and events from his life. But, when the beautiful, spontaneous Francesca (Morena Baccarin) falls for him, the risk-averse Brooklyn librarian finds himself at a crossroads: suppress his feelings of attraction, or take a chance and let love in? Based on a true story that was originally featured on the popular podcast This American Life, the film Ode to Joy is a hilarious and touching look at what happens when we stop being afraid and let ourselves truly live.

Comedy, R, 1hr. 37 min., 2019
