An estimated 35,000-40,000 objects comprise the Berkshire Museum’s permanent collection. Designed to bring knowledge of the arts, history, and natural science to a rural population, a large portion of the collection was initially purchased by Zenas Crane, the founder of the Museum, in the early 1900s as a “window on the world” for Berkshire County residents.

Today, the collection continues to grow, providing an ever “wider window” and includes everything from local mineral specimens to Asian decorative arts, and everything in between! Our collections are a resource for Berkshire County residents and visitors from far and wide, just like Mr. Crane had in mind.
